Matheus Fernandes of Atlanta does not make "Call Back" list; only seven contenders remain all vying for a seven episode

In a unique format twist during Sunday's episode of Oxygen's "The Glee Project," the remaining eight contenders paired up for four separate performances to learn the art of the duet. Hannah and Alex were assigned the glitzy song "Nowadays" from the musical "Chicago," while Damian and Matheus were assigned another show tune, "The Lady Is a Tramp." Cameron and Lindsay were given the romantic "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and Marissa and Samuel sang a retro version of the Brit-pop group Human League's "Don't You Want Me." Guest mentor Darren Criss ("Glee's" Blaine) made his second appearance in the season during "Pairability" week to coach the group on learning how to work together, which caused some of the contenders to evaluate their personal boundaries. In the end, Matheus Fernandes (20) of Atlanta was eliminated.

For his last chance performance, Matheus, with an assist from Damian, was assigned to sing Nancy Sinatra's hit song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" for executive producer Ryan Murphy. Matheus gave it his all, but unfortunately, it was not enough to keep him in the competition.

Matheus, originally from Brazil, moved to the U.S. eight years ago to consult American doctors about his 4'9" height. Their conclusion: he is "just short." Despite not knowing how to speak English, he enrolled in school three days after moving to U.S. and through the help of his trusty dictionary, mastered the language within months. Music has always been his best companion - helping him get through life's difficult challenges. Finally overcoming his insecurities, Matheus decided to audition for "The Glee Project" at the Dallas/Fort Worth open casting call. He proudly proves that being different is never a bad thing.

The remaining seven contenders will face their next "Glee"-inspired challenge on Sunday, July 24, at 9pm ET. Guest mentor Max Adler ("Glee's" Dave Karofsky, "the bully") teaches the contenders how to "grin and bear it" during "Tenacity" week. The contenders are pushed to their physical limits performing their first mash-up song.
