Closure of Grand Island Boulevard began Monday as part of a New York State Department of Transportation project to replace a culvert just north of Whitehaven Road. Work began in front of Town Hall on Grand Island Boulevard.

"It could be a couple, three weeks before they reopen it," Town Supervisor Peter McMahon said. "They have a deadline to reopen it as soon as they get the base coat of asphalt down, and they're hoping to be able to do it much quicker than their deadline."

McMahon said Town Hall is accessible from the Baseline Road entrance, part of a temporary detour in effect until the culvert is replaced and the first course of paving is complete. Local traffic will be maintained. Grand Island Boulevard traffic for the Chamber of Commerce offices should enter the boulevard at Baseline Road. Grand Island Boulevard traffic, for TC's Tavern and McDonalds, should enter the boulevard from the Whitehaven Road side, pictured above.
