NORTH LAKE NEWS: Country news of note

Summer happenings of note upcoming in the north lake country include:

•Wednesday Night Concerts at the Gazebo, Main Street, Newfane, from 7 to 9 p.m. Bring a chair, picnic and enjoy an evening with friends and great music. Free to the public, handicap accessible.

Sponsored by The Newfane Business Association, Newfane Tourism and Wilson's Pizza Shop, concerts include: July 6, Hot Country Line Dancers; July 13, Moorfield Five; July 20, Rock 'n Roll with Red House Music; July 27, Tom Stahl; Aug. 3, Lakeside Duo; Aug. 10, Red House Music Studio Guitar Recital from 6 to 9 p.m. and Aug. 17, The Brotherhood original country and blues.

•Every Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, fiber artist, Joan Reineke, will be teaching knitting lessons for beginners through intermediate at Shoppe On Main, 2714 Main St, Route 78 in Newfane.

•Shoppe On Main offers crochet lessons every Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for students, and 5 to 6:30 p.m. for adults. For more information call Lisa at 751-6723.

•Art therapist Katie Foley will be teaching two classes during the summer at Shoppe On Main. Wednesday, July 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will feature paper making, and Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will feature wind chimes. Classes are geared for ages 8-16. •Newfane's sixth annual Bike Cruise takes place Friday, Aug. 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Main Street in Newfane.

Sponsored by Newfane Business Association, The Depot Open Air Bar, Kantor & Godwin Insurance and North Tonawanda Harley Group, the event also offers food and drink for the whole family along with good old rock and roll featuring "The Weight." Free and open to the public and all models of motorcycles welcome.

•The Newfane Town Celebration will be Saturday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in Newfane.

Featured will be family entertainment, craft and food vendors, a farmers' market, and a parade starting at 11 a.m. Also featured will be a number of different activities throughout the day: including a kids' area, an ice cream eating contest and much more.
