The Niagara Frontier Publications family and the Western New York community lost a dear friend and contributor in the passing of Dorothy M. (nee Rackl) Burnette on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.

A native of Williamsville and resident of Clarence, she was known for her charitable work with the Brothers of Mercy and her care of many students who resided in her home. A member of America's "greatest generation," she extolled great pride and love of her country and was particularly proud of her four children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren - all of whom she viewed as reflection of a beautiful gift.

Her involvement and contributions to others stretched far beyond. She was active at Niagara Frontier Publications and a familiar face in the Grand Island, southern Niagara County and Lewiston-Porter communities over the years. Dorothy had a part in the first-ever edition of the Lewiston-Porter Sentinel on Valentine's Day 1987, walking the Lower River Road area to personally deliver the brand-new paper to residences.

An accomplished cook, Dorothy also enjoyed participating as an official taster judge at the annual Ransomville Cabbage Festival over the years.

She contributed in countless other ways at NFP, working both the driving and walking routes whenever a substitute was needed or assisting the company at its Grand Island office.

"Whether it was inserting, collating, shredding or cleaning, she always loved being involved," said her daughter, Judith (Judy).

Dorothy was the beloved and cherished mother of Judith A. (Arthur "Skip") Mazenauer, Timothy J. (Bonnie) Smith, Patricia A. (Mitchell) Rubin, and Brian L. McCarthy; and devoted grandmother of five and great-grandmother of three. Dorothy touched the lives of countless young people throughout her life and was an integral part of the NFP fabric over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by friends and family took place on Monday, May 2, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church in Clarence.

Those desiring are invited to share their reflections and condolences atwww.AMIGONE.com.
