The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce will honor nine businesses and individuals at its annual Chamber Awards Gala, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston.

The evening is one of the chamber's highlights of the year. It's held to celebrate the business community and those citizens who help contribute to the success of the region.

In this week's Sentinel, we continue our profiles.

Frank's Market Place has been chosen by the Sanborn Business and Professional Association as the 2011 Sanborn Business of the Year.

Owned and operated by Frank Lignos, Frank's Market Place (also often known as Sanborn Market Place) is conveniently located across from Niagara County Community College at 2956 Saunders Settlement Road and provides the Sanborn Community with all of their grocery needs.

Lignos has operated his business in Sanborn since May of 2009. Prior to running Frank's Market Place, he served as store manager of several Penn Traffic Superstores in the Western New York Area for more than nine years.

One of his main objectives of taking over the grocery location in Sanborn was to bring fresh produce and quality products. Frank's is now a full-scale supermarket that features a fresh meat deli, fresh produce, dry grocery, convenience foods, frozen food aisle, dairy and more.

Marketing has been an important tool for Frank's Market Place to showcase sales and grocery specials. Lignos decided to coordinate a weekly sales flyer that is distributed by mail to houses in a five-mile radius of the store. The weekly flyer features Frank's "Buy of the Week" - a "free" item of the week with a $10 purchase. Another popular special is the "Pick Five for $19.99," a choice of specially marked meat items to chose from - steaks, pork chops, spare ribs, sausages, pre-cooked chicken and many more.

Frank's Market Place offers a variety of easy, convenient, on the go foods made fresh. The lunch special is a popular fixture in Sanborn, featuring a fresh deli made 6-inch sub, soda, potato chips and Perry's Ice Cream novelty for $3.99. Lignos also offers a free small coffee or cappuccino with any purchase - all day, any day. This type of marketing has made Frank's a daily stop for local residents and students.

The main priorities of Frank's Market Place is to keep prices low to give people a reason to save gas, time and money by shopping locally in Sanborn. The store has grown to also offer additional services, such as processing Wic, EBT, NYS Lottery, Western Union utility payments along with Western Union money orders.

Lignos has been very active in the community, serving on the board of directors for the Sanborn Business and Professional Association and donating product at low costs to the Sanborn Historical Society. He has assisted with contributing items to make sure the annual Farm Festival, held at the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum, provides a great experience for all who attend. The Farm Festival is one of the main fundraisers to keep the museum open.

Frank's Market Place is open seven days a week. Stop in and say hi to Frank or give him and his staff a call at 731-3237.

The Sanborn Business and Professional Association and Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce proudly congratulate Frank's Market Place as the 2011 Sanborn Business of the Year.
