The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce will honor nine businesses and individuals at its annual Chamber Awards Gala, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston.

The evening is one of the chamber's highlights of the year. It's held to celebrate the business community and those citizens who help contribute to the success of the region.

In this week's Sentinel, we continue our profiles.

Timothy Adamson has been chosen by Village of Youngstown Mayor Neil Riordan as the 2011 Village of Youngstown Citizen of the Year. Upon his installation as village trustee one year ago, Adamson has gone above and beyond in his service and dedication to the community, helping to make the Village of Youngstown a great place to live and grow a business.

A lifelong resident of Youngstown, he enjoys village life with his wife Lori and their four children and one grandchild between them: Tim, Christian, Nikki, Danielle and granddaughter Julianna. Adamson graduated from Brockport State College and has worked for Sihi Pumps Inc., an international pump manufacturer on Grand Island, for 31 years. He holds the position of regional manager for the northeast USA and central/eastern Canada.

Some of his hobbies include playing an occasional round of golf, jogging and other outdoor sports. Adamson has always been a part of being involved in recreational activities, especially spending time with his sons as coach for the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League for 12 years. He also spent time assisting with the Youngstown Recreation program. These activities have all let him remain close to his children, as they have been his No. 1 priority in his life. He also serves as a church trustee at St. John's Lutheran Church in Youngstown.

Last year, Adamson decided it was time to step up to the plate and make a difference in the community. After becoming elected as one of the five Village of Youngstown Trustees, he hit the ground running, assisting in project after project. Some of them include painting the decorative period light poles in the village, signposts and floral pots. He also coordinated a project with the Niagara County Work Program to stain and roof all village pavilions while also coordinating with his liaison assigned public works staff to repaint key village assembly rooms in the Red Brick School Village Hall. Resurfacing all the baseball fields at Veterans Park was also a project he spearheaded.

In the evenings and on weekends, you could often find Adamson taking time out of his day to paint the Veterans Park head recreation building as well as the ball field bleachers. He has volunteered to assist and participate in many of the village events that bring the community together, from the Youngstown Street Dance with the Youngstown Business & Professional Association to Christmas in the Village, community picnics and also the delivery of Christmas baskets to village residents.

Adamson serves as the Village of Youngstown Board liaison to the Department of Public Works and the Village Recreation Commission. Mayor Neil Riordan appreciates his eagerness to be involved and says, "Tim calls me no less than twice a day with new ideas and initiatives to improve the quality of life in the village and is a deserving recipient of this award."

The Village of Youngstown and The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce are appreciative of all that Timothy Adamson does for the community, and congratulate him as the 2011 Village of Youngstown Citizen of the Year.
