Assemblyman John Ceretto announces the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for scholarships that will be awarded in June at their annual conference weekend.

Each year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference awards four $1,500 scholarships (two academic and two athletic) to eligible high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students from around the state. Eligibility is based on the student's grade-point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community, as well as their individual financial need. Ceretto will select one applicant from each category to submit from his assembly district as part of the conference's final statewide selection process.

"I encourage all students from Niagara County to apply for this scholarship," Ceretto said. "Times are tough and it's important that students are given numerous opportunities to help them pay for their higher education without having to take on enormous amounts of debt."

Applications can be obtained by contacting Ceretto's district office at 282-6062, or by visiting the office at 1700 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Completed applications must be received by April 29 at the Albany office at LOB 527, Albany, NY 12248 or Ceretto's district office in Niagara Falls.
