Alexandra Elizabeth Hayes, the 9-year-old granddaughter of Beverly Hayes and niece of Louis Antonacci, is in need of your help.

Alex was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a neuro-genetic disorder that occurs in only 1 in 15,000 live births. The syndrome is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism. Characteristics include: developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures, and walking and balance disorders. Individuals with Angelman syndrome require life-long care.

To help offset her family's medical costs, a fundraiser for Alex has been set for Saturday, March 19, at Frontier Volunteer Fire Co., 2176 Liberty Drive, Niagara Falls. The event begins at 5 p.m. and features live music by the Bob Volkman Band, a basket auction, a 50-50 split raffle, and refreshments and food.

Admission is $20 and includes 25 basket auction tickets.

Moreover, $5,000 in cash will be awarded at 8 p.m. in the form of two $500 prizes, two $250 prizes, 10 $150 cash prizes, and 10 $100 cash prizes. $50 raffle tickets provide 25 chances to win.

For more information, contact Beverly Hayes at 284-4645 or Louis Antonacci at 804-3271 or 791-4066.

Checks may be made payable to Hayes. Funds will be used for a special benefit account.

Donations may be dropped off at the Como Restaurant, 2220 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.
