"Winter happens, and it happens a lot in this part," Barton Hill Hotel & Spa owner Diane Finkbeiner says. "Lewiston residents now have the advantage of 'Winter at the Waterfront.' "

Incorporating that pictorial theme, the hotel has teamed up with Water Street Landing and Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours to offer Lewiston residents discounted dinners, lodging and sightseeing opportunities. "Winter at the Waterfront" begins Feb. 1.

"Winter hurts less when you have a deal," Finkbeiner says.

Through the end of March, the Barton Hill Hotel & Spa is offering $49, best-available rooms for Lewiston residents each Sunday through Thursday (excluding Valentine's Day weekend).

"We want to thank our Lewiston residents," Finkbeiner says, adding, "The forward-thinking businesses appreciate the community."

The hotel is also offering spa specials. Any guest buying two spa treatments (starting at $25) can book a best-available room for $99. With the purchase of four spa treatments, a room can be had for $49.

Over at Water Street Landing, diners can get a three-course meal - including salad, choice of entrée (SideBar sirloin, lemon sage chicken, grilled pork tenderloin, pasta Creole or salmon fillet) and dessert for $49.99 Sunday through Thursday.

"We are offering a dinner-for-two package for only $49.99 - plus tip and gratuity - as a way to remind all Western New Yorkers that winter is worth the wait," said restaurant owner Jon DiBernardo. "While other areas in the country battle hurricanes, mud slides and heat during their weather challenges, we can simply cozy up to a great meal and have a romantic, cozy night while the great weather comes our way.

"Not a bad way to get through the season, is it?"

Those people participating in the hotel and restaurant promotions can also pick up a reduced jet boat ride ticket.

"When Diane called, we said, 'Sure; we'd be happy to participate,' " said WJBT President John Kinney.

He said this promotion is an extension of his company's "bargain basement" Christmas program.

Both Kinney and Finkbeiner say Lewiston residents are great ambassadors. Encouraging them to experience a night at the hotel, a meal at the restaurant or a jet boat ride will motivate them to return - and with friends.

"(Lewiston residents are) not going to find a white water trip in Cincinnati or Pittsburgh," Kinney says.

"We need innovative and attractive programs so our locals can get the best of what this community has to offer," Finkbeiner says. "We want to invite other businesses to join us and heat up winter."

The village's newest law firm, HoganWillig, sponsors "Winter at the Waterfront." Attorneys from the firm have a longstanding relationship with the hotel, serving as counsel for Finkbeiner and her husband, Ed.

"As a relatively new member of the Lewiston business community, HoganWillig wanted to take the opportunity to contribute to the residents of Lewiston through 'Winter at the Waterfront,' " said firm partner and founder Corey J. Hogan. "We have received such a gracious welcome and thought this would present a chance to extend our thanks while, at the same time, partnering with Barton Hill Hotel & Spa, who we know is also committed to promoting the Lewiston region as a premier place to live, work and play. We hope and know that other Lewiston-area businesses will proudly encourage Lewiston residents to relax, enjoy and explore all the community has to offer, and we will certainly continue to be part of that effort."

Those interested in participating in the "Winter at the Waterfront" promotion are encouraged to call and make reservations with the respective businesses: Barton Hill Hotel & Spa, 754-9070, 100 Center St.; Water Street Landing, 754-9200, 115 S. Water St.; Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, 1-888-438-4444, 115 S. Water St.
