" ‘Tis the season to be cheerful and jolly.' Unfortunately it is also the season for criminals to try and take advantage of you. In these economic times crime has risen everywhere but by being a step ahead, we can avoid this nuisance," says Lewiston Police Chief Chris Salada.

With a new surge of break-ins hitting Lewiston neighborhoods Salada and Lewiston Police advise residents to take simple steps to deter criminal activity. Simple steps such as locking your homes when not home, locking your car doors, extra and sensor lighting at night around your home, changing up your daily routine of coming and going to your residence and keeping an eye out for your neighbors.

Salada says he "would like to see people more comfortable in calling the police for any suspicious activity near their homes or in the neighborhoods. It's absolutely no trouble for the police to come and check on this activity and we can identify who does or does not fit in the area."

He reports the town and village of Lewiston are both in the winter parking ban season and advises Lewiston residents to be aware of parking laws. In the Village of Lewiston there is no parking on the village streets from Dec. 1 to April 1, from the hours of 3 to 6 a.m. In the Town of Lewiston there is no parking permitted on roads in the town from Nov. 1 to April 1.

"This will help our dedicated snow plow operators clear our streets safely," Salada adds, asking the cooperation of motorists.
