RMP scoping session on Tuesday

The Robert Moses Parkway Preservation Committee reminds residents to attend the Robert Moses Parkway proposal scoping meeting with New York State Parks officials on Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the auditorium of the Earl Brydges Library, Main Street in Niagara Falls. Public commentary begins at 6 p.m. and there will be opportunity for consultations and review of the scoping materials from 1 to 6 p.m. that day.

Former Village of Lewiston Mayor Richard Soluri, chairman of the committee, urges a strong turnout by residents and community officials. He reports the group's Nov. 22 session at the Village of Lewiston Red Brick Municipal Building saw strong turnout overall, but limited interest by area governments.

"We had a huge turnout with many new faces, including Andrew Giarizza of State Parks, a member of the Niagara Heritage group, and a Falls councilwoman. A concern was the minimal attendance by our four local governments," said Soluri. "We need strong representation from our elected leaders at the scoping meeting on Tuesday."

He reports that those expected to speak include former Youngstown Councilman Fred Stephens, former Youngstown Mayor Norm Swan, former Lewiston Mayor Bill Geiben, Elaine Mancini, Dr. Donald Taylor, Dr. Anthony Grana, the Old Fort Niagara Association, Christopher Brown, Peter Henderson, Rob Nichols, Gene Dimet, Bill Waters, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, Village of Youngstown Mayor Neil Riordan, Porter Councilman Tom Baia, Lewiston Town Councilman Mike Marra, Village of Lewiston Mayor Terry Collesano, Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steven Reiter, Dr. Lawrence Wolfgang and Sandy Hays Mies.

Robert Shibley will serve as moderator of the forum. Soluri notes that Shibley will lead a question period with responses coming by means of electronic answering devices.

"Therefore, if you do not desire to speak, your attendance is (still) very important," he said.

"This is it. Make no mistake. For the future of DeVeaux and north of the falls, see you Tuesday," Soluri added.
