Residents throughout the area took time to honor the nation's veterans at a number of observances held over the past week.

In the photos, residents join Thursday with members of Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1050 around the repaired eternal flame of the Veterans Memorial at Academy Park in Lewiston that recently fell victim to an act of vandalism.

In Wilson, the Martin F. Jennings Post 836 of the American Legion, led by commander Gary S. Pettit, dedicated the service to Floyd "Red" Clark and Vietnam veteran Kevin Rohring. Rohring's casket flag was raised on the flagpole during the service.

Observances also took place at Fort Niagara in Youngstown, in Wheatfield, the Town of Niagara, on the Lew-Port campus and at area nursing homes and hospitals. (photos by Wayne Peters and Terry Duffy)
