The board of directors for the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame will host its 20th annual awards dinner, Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency. The class of 2010 includes 13 Western New York sports legends and community icons. The evening begins with a 5:30 p.m. reception and silent auction, continues with a 7 p.m. dinner and concludes with the 8 p.m. induction ceremony.

This year's class includes sports legends Steve Christie from the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres Coach Lindy Ruff, and Darris and Rich Kilgour from the Buffalo Bandits; high school coaches Charlie Dingboom from Riverside and George Vetter from North Tonawanda; collegiate administrators Dr. Gail F. Maloney of Buffalo State and Dr. Daniel P. Starr of Canisius College; college basketball player Ronald "Whitey" Martin of St. Bonaventure; former major league all-star catcher Buddy Rosar who played for the Yankees, Indians, A's, and Red Sox; local track mentor Carl Roesch Sr., boxer Jimmy Goodrich and Olympic swimming medalist George Breen.

Goodrich, Roesch, Rosar and Vetter are deceased and will enter the hall as members of the "Pride of Western New York" class. All other inductees are expected to attend the gala affair.

"As we get closer to the awards dinner the excitement and anticipation begins to rise for our inductees and their friends and families," said Board President Brian Cavanaugh. "This is shaping up to be a very special class with a lot of community support."

Tickets are $85 each or $750 for a table of 10. A limited number of tickets remain and may be purchased by contacting Melissa Gearhart at 855-4863. This year's inductees bring to 228 the number of men and women inducted since the hall opened in 1991.
