Niagara University's total fall enrollment of 4,273 students signifies the highest number of students who have ever been enrolled at the university at one time, according to officials.

The figure, which marks a 2 percent increase from 2009-10 and a 10 percent gain from 2005, includes freshmen and incoming transfers, those enrolled in Niagara's Bachelor of Professional Studies program in Ontario and its graduate student population. A record number of enrollees in the university's BPS and graduate programs have contributed to the largest-ever student population.

"It is very reassuring to see that the strategic measures that Niagara University has implemented over the last few years are positively impacting our undergraduate and graduate enrollment rates," said the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., whose 10th anniversary as Niagara's president will be celebrated at a President's Dinner on Nov. 13.

"Despite the reports that private institutions are struggling in today's economic climate, Niagara University is continuing to grow thanks to our tremendous faculty and staff and the loyal support of our alumni and friends," Levesque said.

•NU will turn its attention to the next generation of undergraduate students when the university hosts an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23.
