Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is one of just 17 hospitals statewide -- and the only hospital in Western New York -- recently awarded funding by the state to support restructuring projects that will improve the efficiency and affordability of health care.

Memorial will receive $3.2 million from the Health Department and Dormitory Authority of the State of New York for capital and equipment needs for diagnostic imaging, patient monitoring, laboratory and surgical components at the medical center.

Equipment upgrades and improvements will combat widespread heart disease by improving and expanding cardiac diagnostic testing. New, state-of-the-art patient monitoring equipment and motorized stretchers will assure timely responses to stroke, cardiac and other emergencies, Memorial President and CEO Joseph Ruffolo said.

A new $1.2 million interventional radiology suite will support life-saving vascular procedures for diagnosis and treatment. Interventional radiology allows angiography, angioplasty, stents and dissolution of blood clots to be accomplished in the safest, most minimally invasive, cost-saving manner.
