Obit -- Irene L. (Pilch) Piszczek

Irene L. (Pilch) Piszczek, 77, of Grand Island, passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston.

Born in Niagara Falls on March 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Staskiewicz) Pilch and attended local schools. Piszczek was a school bus driver for Niagara-Wheatfield. She enjoyed playing cards with the ladies of the Card Club on Grand Island. She also enjoyed listening to music, watching old movies, watching the birds in her backyard, attending activities at the Golden Age Center on Grand Island with her late husband, Edward, and she loved gardening in her gardens.

Irene's family and friends will miss her kind heart, warm smile, and her giving and caring nature. She is survived by her children: Susan Price of Colorado, Edwina (Angie Crosby) Piszczek of New Jersey and David Piszczek of Washington, D.C.; her grandchildren: Edward Jordan Price, Andrew Allan Price, Emily Irene Crosby-Piszczek and Woodrow Edward Crosby-Piszczek; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Lucian Kanafa, and by her sister, Ruth Bocchicchia.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Zajac Funeral Home Inc., 319 24th St. (corner of Welch Avenue), Niagara Falls, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish (24th and Niagara streets). The Rev. Jacek Mazur will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Peace Rehabilitation Center or to Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
