The Town of Porter hosts the annual Cabbage Festival for the seventh year, in cooperation with the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ransomville Fire Co. on Route 93.

Registration is now under way for the recipe contest and the cabbage leaf fashion show.

The recipe contest entails two typed copies of recipes that accompany the dish, and have the contestant's name and phone number on the back of one recipe. The entries must be brought to the Ransomville Fire Co. between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Entries received after that won't qualify for the contest.

The recipes will be judged based on taste, originality, ease of preparation, and presentation. First and second prizes will be awarded in each category.

Entries should be brought in a disposable dish. All recipes must contain cabbage.

The Cabbage Leaf Fashion Show will be held at 4 p.m. Contestants should be on site no later than 3:30 p.m. to ensure proper placement. A registration form should be filled out prior, and include name, telephone number, mailing address and music to display outfits in. Participants should also include a 25-word biography about themselves. Entries should be mailed to Douglas Dietz, 4341 Dickersonville Road, Ransomville.

The costumes will be based on originality, creativity, complexity and presentation. Contestants are encouraged to attend decorating night prior to the contest.
