As preparations continue for the 53rd annual Niagara County Peach Festival, Sept 10-12 at Academy Park in Lewiston, Lewiston Kiwanis organizers report that New York Air National Guard Lt. Col. Patrick Roemer has been named as its general chairman. Lewiston Kiwanis Club President Randy Gorzka made the announcement this week.

He reports that Lt. Col. Roemer is a West Point graduate and serves as squadron commander of the 107th Air Refueling Wing at the Niagara Falls Air Base. His duties include managing civil engineering, fire and rescue services, readiness and environmental management and serving as base fire marshal at NFAB.

A member of the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston since 2003, Roemer has served as co-chair of the Peach Festival for the past two years and worked on past Peach Festival committees. He has also been active in other Lewiston Kiwanis endeavors, including serving as chair of the Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for the past three years.

Roemer lives in Lewiston with his wife Cynthia and their six children, Jay, Justin, Jordan, Sean, Shannon and Jenna.

Roemer notes that homegrown Niagara County peaches will again be the main ingredient this year for the famous shortcakes at the festival, and he invites area families to attend and try some.
