Boosters recognize N-W seniors

On Monday, June 7, N-W Community Boosters awarded scholarships to the following six Niagara-Wheatfield High School seniors: Rachel Pearson, Victoria Ayers, Danielle Stenzel, Kyle Zastrow, Ryan Brown, and Shawn Haseley.

Rachel Pearson, daughter of Brian Pearson of Williamsville and Maria DiNardo of Niagara Falls, also received Ithaca College, Niagara University and Bucknell University scholarships. She was salutatorian of the Class of 2010, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government secretary for two years, Student Council representative and secretary for four years, and received numerous honorary awards.

Rachel will attend Bucknell University in the fall, where she plans to earn her bachelor's degree in business management with a minor in international relations.

Danielle Stenzel, daughter of Gary and Linda Stenzel of Niagara Falls, received the Air Force Math and Science Excellence Award, the N-W Science Excellence Award, New York state Regents award, was a member of the National Honor Society and was a varsity swim team member for three years.

Danielle plans to attend Niagara University to earn a bachelor's in pre-medicine. She was awarded the Niagara University Trustee scholarship for four years.

Victoria Ayers, daughter of Michael and Elena Ayers of Niagara Falls, is was an active member in organizations at N-W, including the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and yearbook. She is also an athlete and was on soccer and track and field teams.

In the fall, Victoria will attend Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I., where she will study sports management/entertainment planning. She earned the Johnson and Wales Presidential scholarship for four years.

Kyle Zastrow, son of Christopher and Lynette Zastrow was a member of the Model U.N. club, the National Honor Society and the jazz band. He made the Area All-State Jazz Band and Area All-County Band.

Kyle is going to attend SUNY Fredonia in the fall to major in pre-med/biology. He has also enlisted in the Air Force National Guard.

Ryan Brown, the son of Patrick and Cheryl Brown of Niagara Falls, also received the Team Tim Horton scholarship. In addition to earning academic honors, he was on the varsity soccer, track team, and was also a member of the ski/snowboard club.

Ryan will major in kinesiology at University of Rochester, where he hopes to fulfill his dream of becoming a helicopter pilot. He will join the ROTC Navy Program at Rochester.

Shawn Haseley, son of Randy and Diane Haseley of Sanborn, also has received the Cornerstone Credit Union Scholarship. He has earned numerous honors, including Falcon Pride Award, All-WNY Scholar Athlete Honorable Mention, and Erie Niagara Sunrise Exchange club Youth of the Year award.

He has also participated in tournaments in volleyball, basketball, and tennis throughout his high school years. He has been in the symphonic band for four years.

Shawn will attend Buffalo State College where he hopes to pursue a career as a social studies teacher. He earned the Buffalo State Presidential scholarship award.
