Our society's gender roles are constantly changing. Women are taking more leadership roles in various areas of the community. This includes religious institutions. Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church in Ransomville has just appointed a new pastor following the retirement of the Rev. Les Drayer. Anne Cole will serve as Fillmore Chapel's first female pastor.

"I am excited to serve as pastor of Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church," said Cole. "My first Sunday will be July 4."

Cole's job as pastor involves leading worship services, but also extends beyond to include other functions in the church community.

"We will be envisioning new ways in which to share God's love in the community," she said. "Our fall programming will include a weekly Bible study and spiritual growth opportunities for children, youth and adults."

Cole's knowledge and experience in church functions are key tools in helping to run and create programs for her religious community. She held other leadership positions at her previous location, Amherst Asbury United Methodist Church.

"My previous experience in the United Methodist Church has included serving as spiritual development coordinator and outreach team leader," said Cole. "I am passionate about small group ministry and community outreach."

Prior to her experiences serving in the church, Cole spent many years as an environmental engineer.

"I have followed the Lord all my life," said Cole. " My love of God's creation took me first into a career in environmental engineering. After more than 20 years of serving as a steward for our natural resources, I answered God's call to pastoral ministry."

In addition to her duties as pastor, Cole also finds time for herself and her family.

"I enjoy spending time with my family," said Cole. " I am an avid tennis player and I enjoy hiking, especially in the Adirondacks."

Fillmore Chapel holds a service every Sunday at 11 a.m. It is located at 2523 Youngstown-Wilson Road, Ransomville.
