Singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco will host a rare live concert webcast Thursday, June 24, at 11 p.m. on creativeallies.com and Ustream.

Bridging the worlds of activist folk, jazz and alternative rock, DiFranco arrived on the music scene in the 1990s with provocative, political songwriting touching on patriarchy, racism, sexism, poverty and war. Her music has received widespread critical acclaim while spawning generations of fans.

Her latest studio release, 2008's "Red Letter Year," received widespread praise from critics. "Frank, forthright and fashioned with care ... a significant turning point," said the BBC. The New York Times wrote that "Red Letter Year's" "groove is as meaningful as the words," and the Buffalo News called the album "celebratory and joyous."

DiFranco recently celebrated independent record stores with the release of a limited-edition CD, "Live at Bull Moose Music," sold exclusively through independent stores on Record Store Day and now available from the Righteous Babe online store.

During the past few weeks, DiFranco performed at the Roots of Music Benefit to raise money for music education for low-income students in New Orleans, and co-headlined the Gulf Aid concert to raise awareness and money for communities impacted by the BP oil spill.

The webcast can be viewed at www.creativeallies.com.

DiFranco is the fourth artist to appear in Creative Allies' Ex'pression webcast series, Previous guests include Dr. Dog, Amanda Palmer and OK Go.
