NU to host 'Empowering Volunteers' conference

Community preparedness event will be held Saturday, June 12, at 9 a.m.

Border Community SERVICE of Niagara University is hosting a free Citizen and Community Preparedness conference at Niagara University on Saturday, June 12. The "Empowering Volunteers" Conference is designed to provide training opportunities and workshops detailing "best practices" in citizen and community preparedness initiatives. The event is for community volunteers and leaders in Niagara County, Erie County and the City of Buffalo.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. in the Castellani Art Museum with a keynote address by David Bissonette, the Town of Clarence emergency coordinator who synchronized the response to the tragic crash of Flight 3407. It will continue with a series of workshops including presentations by Dr. Peter Pry, president, EMPact America; Donald Goralski, chief of staff, UB's Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER); and other distinguished speakers. The workshops will be held in St. Vincent's Hall
