TIPS

•Customers: Find items from sofas to jewelry, kids' toys to sporting goods – and treasured products not available online. Just make sure you bring enough cash and single bills when you start the day, because these bargains are first-come, first-served – and people start shopping early!

•For those hosting a garage sale: Experts agree best-practice tips include cleaning and proactively placing items for sale, clearly labeling and displaying prices, and making sure items are within easy reach.

More than 60 homes and local businesses are expected to take part in the annual 10 Mile Garage Sale.

Lewiston Police: Safety & caution key to weekend’s success

Submitted by Frank Previte

Chief of Police

With the onset of another 10 Mile Garage Sale this year, it is important to remember that the most important concern should always be the safety and well-being of others. While the three-day event that lasts throughout the weekend of June 9 can be exciting, it also can create dangerous situations.

People not familiar with the area will be looking for locations and may stop suddenly or turn unexpectedly to find a sale or parking. Pedestrians can also cross roadways unsafely and may come out from in between vehicles. Sometimes, the close proximity of the locations can magnify this problem.

Realizing that events such as this create both foot and pedestrian traffic, it is imperative that everyone takes extra care to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors. So, whether you are a pedestrian or operating a vehicle, please take the extra time to slow down, obey traffic laws, and look out for one another.

We will have extra patrols out during the event to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Please remember: No item or sale is worth not having any of you with us at the end of the day.
