Carol-Ann Strzalkowski
Carol-Ann (Gurrie) Strzalkowski, a resident
of Grand Island, formerly of Riverside, passed away on July
5, 2004. She was the wife of James J. Strzalkowski; the
mother of James J. Strzalkowski, Jr., and Susan Strzalkowski;
grandmother of Angelia Strzalkowski; sister-in-law of Robert
(Anita) Strzalkowski and Peter Strzalkowski; daughter of
the late Evelyn Fetcher; and daughter-in-law of Irene Strzalkowski.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Wednesday and Thursday
at the Kaiser Funeral Home. Services will be held at St.
Stephen's Church today at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St.
Stephen's Cemetery.
Joseph
C. Cinelli
Joseph C. Cinelli, 70, a long time
Grand Island resident, passed away on June 16, 2004, after
a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Buffalo, Cinelli served in the
United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Conrad
F. Kania Marine Corps League, the American Legion and the
Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial VFW Post 9249. He graduated
from Canisius College in September 1966 with a bachelor's
degree in business administration. He worked for Praxair
until retiring in 1997.
Cinelli was an avid hunter and also
loved to fish. He was a Life Member, past president and
director of the Grand Island Rod and Gun Club. He was a
good friend to many members of the Niagara River Station
Fishing Club.
Cinelli is survived by his wife, the
former Margie "Susie" Kovacsev; four sons, Michael
Cinelli and Joseph (Ingrid) Cinelli, Christopher (Julie)
Cinelli and of Grand Island and Jon (Anne) Cinelli of Tonawanda;
he was the proud loving papa to Ashly, Bethany, Jake, Amanda,
Alyssa, Connor, Parker, Jon and Claire; a brother, Robert
(Anita) Cinelli; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased
by his brother Frank (Judy) Cinelli.
A mass of Christian burial was held
at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church on June 19. Interment
at St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Hazel Hardy
Jennetta
Hazel Hardy, 95, of Getzville, died peacefully, surrounded
by family, in her home on July 19, 2004.
Hardy was the beloved wife of the late Marvin
G. Hardy. She was dear mother to Phyllis J. (John) Wesolek
of Grand Island, Elma J. (Carlton) Metzloff, Judith H. (Dean)
Winston and the late Ilean R. Hardy; loving grandmother
of Robert P. (Penny) Burns, Susan Barns, Patricia (Randall)
Walters, Maureen (Kurt) Holme, Christian (Tho) Metzloff,
Kurt Metzloff, Kyle (Elizabeth) Metzloff, Colleen (Joseph)
Siracuse, Ross (Maria) Winston; and Jeffrey (Erin) Winston;
17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives may call at Amigone
Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive at Parker, Tonawanda,
on Friday, July 23, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday,
from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.,
with a procession to Skinnersville Cemetery for prayer proceeding.

Helen
E. Hess
Helen E. Hess, a long-time Grand Island resident,
passed away on Monday, July 19, 2004. She was 71.
Prior to moving to Grand Island, Hess lived
in Maryland, where her interment will be located.
Hess is survived by her husband, Harold L.
Hess; children, Brenda (Steven) Sulley of Belleville, Ill.,
and Donald L. Hess of Niagara Falls; eight grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Anne Hess-Meyers.
Hess was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Josephine Roberts.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the
Kaiser Funeral Home.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials

William
T. Stoberl
William T. Stoberl, 68, passed away on Saturday,
July 17, 2004.
Stoberl was beloved husband to Mary E. (Barry-Miller)
and the late Judith (Miller). He was dearest father to Scott
Stoberl and Lynn (Kevin) Kelly; stepfather of Robert (Julie)
Miller, Timothy (Terrianne) Miller and Jon (Kathleen) Miller;
grandfather of eight; brother of the late Joseph Stoberl;
and brother-in-law of Theresa Stoberl.
The family will present Wednesday, July 21
and Thursday, July 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Harris Hill Chapel/Amigone Funeral Home, Inc., 8440 Main
St., Clarence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend
a memorial mass Saturday in St. Gregory the Great Church
at 9:30 a.m.

Eddie
Little, Sr.
Eddie Little, Sr., lived a good life, a long
life, and a life that positively touched everyone who was
blessed by his presence. The sun rose on Eddie on March
8, 1928 in Abbieville, S.C., and he departed this life on
Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Las Vegas.
Little was the youngest child of Alec and
Verna (Jackson) Martin. He was proceeded in death by his
older siblings: Ben, James, Jack, Odell, Otis, Larry, Lilar
(Martin) and Hester (Carter). Little accepted Jesus as an
early age, and attended local churches. While living in
Buffalo he was a member of Friendship and Faith Baptist
churches. While living on Grand Island he and his family
attended Trinity Baptist Church.
After living in Western New York for many
years, Little and Benighta, his wife of 53 years, relocated
to Las Vegas to be closer to their only son, Eddie Jr.,
and to enjoy their golden years. Little was an avid outdoors
man and sports fan.
The John W. Cowper Construction company was
recipient of 30 years of hard work, courtesy of Little.
Outside of the office, Little's love for life
and children was expressed through the many years he and
his wife dedicated as foster parents to several children
and as workers in a home for girls. Little's love and dedication
for his family was evident as he always extended his time
and heart to countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and
nephews, and especially his precious granddaughter Morgan.
"Uncle Ed," you will always be remembered
for your quick wit, quick tongue and strong strut. You are
removed from this place, but never the heart.
Survivors include wife Benighta; son,
Eddie Jr., Little's daughter-in-law Adrienne (Lennix) Little;
grandchild Morgan Lynette Little; a host of in-laws, nieces,
nephews and friends.
Robert
F. Guenot, Sr.
Robert F. Guenot, Sr., a Grand Island resident,
passed away at DeGraff Hospital on Saturday, July 24, 2004.
He was 82.
Born in Karthaus, Pa., Guenot moved to Niagara
Falls in the early 1950s, and then to Tonawanda, where he
worked for 27 years as a lab operator at Druez Plastic Corp.
He retired to Karthaus in 1981, before moving to Grand Island
in 2003 to be near family.
Guenot enjoyed hunting, golfing and travel.
He was an avid dog lover, especially of Skylar, Kai Lie
and Rikor. He was past president of Lion's Club 14J, a member
of the Holy Name Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars #8386,
Durez Mechanics Club, Retiries Club, St. Mary's Catholic
Church (Frenchville, Pa.) and Karthaus Volunteer Fire Co.
Guenot was a member of the 13th Air Borne
Division during World War II. He served in the 82nd and
101st, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Opal
(Richard) of Grand Island; three sons, Robert (Ruth) Guenot,
Jr., of New Jersey, Richard W. Guenot and Terance L. (Leah)
Guenot, both of Grand Island; two brothers, Duane Guenot
of Pine Green, Pa., and Herman Guenot of Somerville, Fla.;
a sister, Viola, of Erie, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren.
Funeral and church service were held in Pennsylvania.
Interment in Keewyden Cemetery. Local funeral arrangements

Patrick
A. Stoyle
Patrick A. Stoyle of Gaithersburg, MD., died
Sunday, July 25, 2004, after a brief illness.
The 1972 graduate of Kenmore West High School
relocated to Maryland, where he was active in the Fraternal
Order of the Eagles, Aerie 3500. He served as the Eagle's
State President in 2002-03. He went on to become the Junior
Worthy President, and during his tenure he actively raised
funds for Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
Stoyle is survived by two sons, Bryan P. Stoyle
and Shawn R. Stoyle, both of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; his father,
Thomas M. (late Mary W.) Stoyle, Sr.; two sisters, Meg Stoyle
Corby of New Jersey, and Elizabeth M. (Michael) Dommer of
Grand Island; a brother, Thomas M. Stoyle, Jr., of Tonawanda;
nieces and nephews including Kevin (Jennifer) Corby, Karen
(Michael) Brooks, Robert (Polly) Dommer, Richard Dommer
and Taylor Mary Wilson; as well as a beloved companion,
Sally K. O'Neal.
Services will be held at St. John Neuman Chapel,
Englewood and Belmont avenues, Kenmore, N.Y., on Tuesday,
Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.

of Western New York, 2525 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga,
NY, 14227.

Mary
Enser
Mary (Bottlinger) Enser, a resident of Grand
Island, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004.
Enser was wife to the late Harvey R. Enser
Sr. for 67 years. They were high school sweethearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robert)
West of Grand Island; her son, Harvey R. (Colleen) Enser
Jr., of Grand Island; grandchildren, Bonnie (Michael) Marino,
David (Kelly) Lesinski Jr., Justine (Ronald) Sorri, Stephen
West, Ryan, Jay, Erich and Caitlin Enser; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers.
Private funeral services were held at the
family's convenience. Arrangements were made by Kaiser Funeral
Home.

DeValentino
Richard A. "Skip" DeValentino of
Kenmore passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004. He was
a member of Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Post #9249.
DeValentino was the beloved husband of Diane
P. Dorey DeValentino; dear father to Lisa A. DeValentino,
Denise (Carl) Benedict of Rochester, Tricia L. DeValentino,
Richard J. DeValentino; brother to Joanne (Garth) Fedorowicz
of East Greenbush; uncle of Sarah and Matthew Fedorowicz;
and grandfather of five.
Friends may call today from 4 to 9 p.m. at

Charlotte Bruce
Charlotte Bruce, a long-time Grand Island
resident, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004. She had
been in intermediate care at the Montebello Nursing Home
in Albuquerque, NM, for almost a year. She is survived by
two sons, Donald Bruce of Albuquerque, NM, and Robert Bruce
of San Francisco, Calif. As per previous arrangements, there
is no visitation or funeral home service.
Bruce was an artist for the Grand Island Pennysaver.
She will be remembered for her upbeat spirit and love.
Helen Marie
Bucher Kester
Helen Marie Bucher Kester, a long-time Grand
Island resident, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004. Kester
was wife to the late Donald G. Kester. She is survived by
her children, Mark (Ellen) Kester and Donna (Richard Jr.)
Phillips; grandchildren, Rachel and Hannah Kester, Richard
III and Helen-Marie Phillips.
She was the daughter of the late Russell and
Amilla Bucher, and the sister of the late Bud Bucher. Memorial
services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m., at
St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1453 Staley Road, Grand Island.

Millie F. (Rohde)
Vanthoff
Millie F. Vanthoff, a life-long Grand Island
resident, passed away after a short illness on Thursday,
Aug. 26, 2004. She was 88. Vanthoff's paternal grandparents
William and Sophia Rohde came to Grand Island from Raden,
Mecklenburg, Germany, in 1882. Her maternal grandparents,
Ludwig and Sophia Long, also from Germany, were among the
early settlers on Grand Island. Her father, Herman Rohde,
was a Grand Island judge from 1927 to 1935.
She was an active member of the Grand Island
Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She also enjoyed membership
in the Ladies Home Bureau. In later years she was a member
of the Grand Island Golden Agers. Vanthoff is predeceased
by her brother, William Rohde, who died in World War II,
her sister Ruth Williams, and her husband Richard Gordon
"Shorty" Vanthoff, who died in 1969.
Survivors include a sister, Leona Kloss of
Tonawanda; a son, Richard "Shorty" Vanthoff of
Grand Island; a daughter, Karen Vanthoff of Grand Island;
grandchildren, Gordon (Adriane) and LeAnn Vanthoff; and
great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Richard, Justine and Robert
Vanthoff. Her great-grandchildren were a special joy and
she was comforted by her pets. Funeral services were held
Monday, Aug. 30, at Kaiser Funeral Home. Interment in Maple
Grove Cemetery, Grand Island. Memorials may be made to Hospice
Buffalo.

Richard K. Lovelee
Richard K. Lovelee passed away on Tuesday,
Sept. 7, 2004. A long-time Grand Island resident, he was
an army veteran of World War II and past fire chief. He
was a lifetime member of the Grand Island Fire Company.
Lovelee was dear father to Kenneth (Brenda)
Lovelee of Oklahoma and Judith Kenyon of Buffalo; stepfather
to Dawn (Larry) Hillock of Georgia, Gail (George) Allen
of Florida and Gary (Patricia) Scott of Grand Island; grandfather
of ten and great-grandfather of five.
Friends may call tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.
at Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road. Funeral services
will follow at 8 p.m.

Flora Mae Benns
Flora Mae Benns, a resident of Grand Island,
passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. She was a life-long
member of the Grand Island Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Benns was wife to the late Edward C. Benns.
She is survived by three sons, Richard (Susan) Benns, Edward
(Lynne) Benns and James (Jill) Benns; six grandchildren,
Richard, Matthew, Alex, Tara, Erica and Heather Benns; and
six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 11 brothers
and sisters.
Visitation was held at the Kaiser Funeral
Home. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at
St. Stephen's Church. Interment in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Rowland Runckel
Rowland Runckel passed away on Tuesday, Sept.
7, 2004, after a long illness. Runckel, a retired postal
worker and World War II veteran, is survived by his wife
Shirley (Tucker) and son Dave. After services at Kaiser
Funeral Home, Runckel was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in
Orchard Park.
Larry
Mahoney
Larry Mahoney, 60, of Punta
Gorda, Fla., formerly of Grand Island, passed away on Saturday,
Sept. 11, 2004. Mahoney, a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, was born on March 24, 1944, in West Orange, N.J.,
to Warren and Emily. He served his country as a member of
the Air Force during Vietnam. Later on, he earned a master
of business administration from Farleigh Dickinson University.
Survivors include his wife of
15 years, Joanne Mahoney, also of Punta Gorda; and a stepson,
Joseph Cormier of Arlington Va. He was predeceased by his
brother Warren Mahoney.
A memorial mass will be held
at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Sacred Heart Conference
- of which Mahoney was an active member - 520 Cross St.,
Punta Gorda, Fla., 33950. Donations may also be made to
