Motor vehicle accident in Lewiston

At 8:41 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications division received a 9-1-1 call reporting a motor vehicle that had crashed into a house in the 400 block of Kenwood Drive. On arrival, deputies confirmed there were no injuries to either the occupants of the residence or the single occupant of the motor vehicle.

Kathy Hochul on Monday announced she has declared a state of emergency in the counties of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, Oneida and contiguous counties, that will allow the state to coordinate and share resources with local governments affected by the current lake-effect snowstorm.

NCSO: Abandoned dog found in dumpster

On Jan. 18, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting an abandoned dog in a dumpster behind Nelson's Café, 2298 River Road. Deputies responded and were able to retrieve the dog. The dog was turned over to the care of SPCA agent Rinehart.

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball announced two funding opportunities are available to support New York's county and local fairs. Buffalo man pleads guilty to fentanyl charge

Western District of New York United States Attorney Trini E. Ross announced Dewayne Vass, 43, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr. to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, which carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10,000,000 fine.

Former Deputy Erie County Clerk Alexander McDougall was sentenced Friday to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison and ordered to pay full restitution after pleading guilty to stealing over $320,000 in county funds, state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane and Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announced.

Obituary: Hank Lisowski

Hank Lisowski, born on June 12, 1938, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 8, 2025. He died at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston surrounded by his family. He graciously and mercifully did not suffer.
