Grand Island: Structure heavily damaged from garage fire

At 12:11 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, the Grand Island Fire Co. dispatch received a call of a structure fire on Sandy Beach Road. Within minutes, firefighters were on scene, reporting a 2.5-story wood frame house with a fully involved garage fire beginning to extend into the house.

Bruscia of Buffalo pleaded guilty this morning before Cheektowaga Town Court Justice John Wanat to one count of inciting to riot and one count of criminal impersonation in the second degree (class "A" misdemeanors). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest charge in two separate criminal cases.

On Thursday, April 13, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to a fire at 2918 Weston Ave. The two-story home suffered heavy interior damage. Two occupants sustained burn injuries, but declined transport to the hospital.

In addition, the study found that becoming infected with COVID-19 poses a significant risk of blood clots.

DiNapoli: Value of IDA projects grew 10% in 2021 to $126 billion

New York's 107 local industrial development authorities (IDAs) reported 4,324 active projects with an aggregate value of $126 billion in 2021, a 10.4% (or $11.9 billion) increase compared to 2020, according to a report released Tuesday by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The number of IDA projects increased by 1.5%.

Teens charged for involvement in attack

On the afternoon of Friday, April 7, Niagara Falls Police detectives charged two juveniles for their involvement in an attack that was video recorded and distributed on social media. The two male suspects, ages 15 and 16, were both charged with assault in the third degree and, pursuant to state law, were issued appearance tickets to report to Niagara County Probation Department.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Matthew H. Figura plead guilty to the murder of Patrick M. DeLuca this morning in County Court. Figura admitted to killing DeLuca, age 36, of Niagara Falls on June 3, 2021, at Niagara Metals in Niagara Falls, where both were employed.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced $250,000 in new federal funding through the "Bipartisan Infrastructure Law" for the Niagara Falls International Airport. The local airport is among just 33 projects receiving an award through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program.
