Eight Days of Hope wrapped up its third annual outreach in the Buffalo community on July 23. Hundreds of locals and out-of-towners came together over an eight-day period for one goal - to love and serve the Fillmore District of Buffalo.

NCIDA Assistant Director Andrea Klyczek closed the meeting just two minutes after making her introductory remarks.

The U.S. surgeon general is warning that America's youth face a "devastating" mental health crisis. The American Academy of Pediatrics calls it "a national children's mental health emergency." And obstetrician/gynecologists and other primary care providers are seeing increased anxiety and depression in their pregnant and postpartum patients.

Artpark & Company presents "Opera in Concert at Artpark: Up Close and Personal" in the Mainstage Theater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30. Two consecutive summers where large gatherings were frowned upon, if not prohibited, made it impossible for Kingdom Bound Ministries to hold its annual four-day festival at Darien Lake. But with all COVID-19 restrictions lifted, and concert and event attendance rising - particularly outdoors - Kingdom Bound is a full-go, this weekend, for the first time since 2019.

Empire State Development (ESD), its USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) subsidiary, and the City of Niagara Falls held a virtual information session Wednesday and announced program components and next steps for the Niagara Falls Strategic Economic Development Initiative. The $40 million plan is intended to spur targeted investment throughout city business districts along Niagara Street, Main Street, Portage Road and Pine Avenue.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced new COVID-19 preparedness initiatives to protect public health and support New York state's ongoing response to the pandemic. Hochul announced the state is working closely with public health experts to craft a "fall action plan" to address the potential for seasonal coronavirus surges later this year, as well as strategies to allow students to return safely to school this fall.

Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy, New York Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, and City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown were joined by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and Buffalo Place to mark the near-completion of the latest phase of the "Cars Sharing Main Street" project in downtown Buffalo. The leaders also announced $54.5 million in new funding to continue the work along additional sections of Main Street.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday launched a statewide listening tour on "the future of farming in New York state." Her team said a series of listening sessions will allow the state to hear directly from farmers about their priorities in addressing climate, workforce and economic challenges, and will help inform the state's federal priorities for critical funding and policy changes in the areas of agriculture, nutrition and the environment.

"Serving Christ and Community since 1922" is the theme of the Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church 100th anniversary celebration event to be held Saturday, July 23, for membership and friends from the community. The church opened in 1922 and continues to serve at that very same location today. The land for the church was part of a fruit tree farm and was donated by the family of the late Jonathan Bowen.

The Village of Lewiston celebrated its new inclusive playground Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Marilyn Toohey Park behind the Red Brick Municipal Building. Since the site opened earlier this summer, it has been a popular location for families with small children. The splash pad has been particularly busy.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will kick off their 2023 international tour with 31 performances across the U.S.; spanning from Feb. 1 in Tampa through an April 14 homecoming in Newark, New Jersey, before heading to Europe. The shows will mark Springsteen and The E Street Band's first tour dates since February 2017, and their first in North America since September 2016.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit. The $250 million program will support small businesses that made investments to comply with emergency orders and regulations, or to increase public safety, in response to COVID-19. If deemed eligible by the screening tool, a link to the application will be provided when the program application opens.

At Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn on Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the John. R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York (S.1046-E/A.6678-E) into law. Her team said this cements New York's place as "a national leader on voting rights, and fulfilling a key part of the governor's 2022 State of the State agenda."
