The popular Niagara Falls Blues Festival will return for its 14th year of programming on Old Falls Street USA on Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16. The event will be held in memoriam of Toby Rotella, the founder of the festival who passed away in March.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced new steps the state of New York is taking to protect individuals from COVID-19 following reports of a new variant, BA.2.86. These steps come after COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York increased as the summer progressed. As a reminder, an updated COVID-19 vaccine tailored to guard against certain variants is expected to arrive in pharmacies and doctor's offices this fall.

Kinney looking for Village Board approval of new Lewiston waterfront docking system

Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours President John Kinney has proposed a docking system for the waterfront area parallel to his operation's staging area. He said the seawall there, as is, is not practically usable for transient boaters - or even for WJBT. Kinney would like to reconfigure the area to better accommodate his patrons. He has offered to donate his existing adjacent docking area to the municipality for the betterment of transient boaters.

Reading garden planned for Grand Island Memorial Library

The Grand Island Memorial Library is planning to add a reading garden to the grassy area next to the building that faces the parking lot. The library will be called the Richard Earne Memorial Reading Garden, as a tribute to the late Richard Earne, who was a member of the Grand Island Rotary Club, as well as a member of the library board of trustees. He died on Sept. 18, 2022.
