ESD details $40 million initiative for Niagara Falls projects

Empire State Development (ESD), its USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) subsidiary, and the City of Niagara Falls held a virtual information session Wednesday and announced program components and next steps for the Niagara Falls Strategic Economic Development Initiative. The $40 million plan is intended to spur targeted investment throughout city business districts along Niagara Street, Main Street, Portage Road and Pine Avenue.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced new COVID-19 preparedness initiatives to protect public health and support New York state's ongoing response to the pandemic. Hochul announced the state is working closely with public health experts to craft a "fall action plan" to address the potential for seasonal coronavirus surges later this year, as well as strategies to allow students to return safely to school this fall.

Tim Kennedy, New York Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, and City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown were joined by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and Buffalo Place to mark the near-completion of the latest phase of the "Cars Sharing Main Street" project in downtown Buffalo. The leaders also announced $54.5 million in new funding to continue the work along additional sections of Main Street.

"Serving Christ and Community since 1922" is the theme of the Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church 100th anniversary celebration event to be held Saturday, July 23, for membership and friends from the community. The church opened in 1922 and continues to serve at that very same location today. The land for the church was part of a fruit tree farm and was donated by the family of the late Jonathan Bowen.
