As one of the longest occupied military bases in the United States, Old Fort Niagara has a lot of history to share. On Memorial Day weekend, the fort will present its annual "Soldiers through the Ages" event, a timeline of military history spanning four centuries.

This Academy Park marker would replace the recently retired black and white letterboard sign.

Niagara University announced that Jeff and Mary Helen Holzschuh have pledged a gift of $10 million to the university. In recognition of the gift, the university will rename the college of business to the Holzschuh College of Business Administration. With this generous gift, Jeff and Mary Helen become the largest benefactors in the history of the university.

Volunteers with the Historical Association of Lewiston hosted a drive-thru Chiavetta's chicken barbecue fundraiser on Saturday at the Town of Lewiston Town Hall parking lot. They were joined by elected and local business leaders. Dinners were just about sold-out when these photos were taken.

The Bruce Sutherland Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, May 16, at the Niagara Frontier Golf Club in Youngstown. Funds raised will go to the Historical Association and the Lewiston Museum, and the VFW Post 7487 scholarship fund - two local causes that Sutherland had volunteered and worked for in the past. Bruce was a respected community leader who unexpectedly passed away in December.

The Village of Lewiston Earth Day cleanup will be held Saturday, April 23, starting at the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Hibbard's is open! Lewiston's world-famous, Barenaked Ladies-endorsed sweet shop served its first custard of the season at one minute to 11 on Monday morning. Joe Woodbury of the Tuscarora Reservation was first in line.
