Niagara-Wheatfield dropped in Class A1 semis

Everything was looking grand for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys basketball team. Last Saturday, the team upset rival North Tonawanda, clinching a berth to play in the semifinals at Buffalo State for the first time in 14 years. The team rode an emotional high heading into the Section VI Class A1 semifinal matchup versus Williamsville East Thursday night, but the Flames knocked the Falcons back down to earth, as N-W was defeated, 66-43.
Wallace seeking re-election as supervisor of the Town of Niagara

Lee S. Wallace has announced he will seek re-election for the office of supervisor in the Town of Niagara. Wallace, the incumbent town supervisor, is a lifetime resident of the town and a previous town employee for more than 40 years.
Niagara-Wheatfield falls in Section VI hockey final

In the 2019 Section VI hockey postseason, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons proved doubters wrong by making the large schools final. On Monday night, though, the Falcons were halted at the hands of the Orchard Park Quakers, 4-0.

It's been 14 years since the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys basketball team has reached Buffalo State to play in the Section VI semifinals. On Saturday, the team punched its ticket to return to the venue, as the No. 6 Falcons defeated No. 3 North Tonawanda, 58-49, in the Class A1 quarterfinals.

Coming into the postseason, many questioned how far the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons hockey team could go. After a regular season record of 10-10, the Falcons didn't let the number put any dampers on a run to the Section VI large school championship. Tuesday night, the Falcons strived forward and defeated No. 1 Lancaster, 4-1, in the Section VI large school semifinal.

Niagara-Wheatfield's Raejaun Smith would be the first to admit he's been struggling at the free throw line the past couple games. Despite the struggles, Smith came through when it mattered most for the Falcons. The Falcons defeated the Kenmore East Bulldogs 71-69 Friday night, in what was a thriller from start to finish.

In basketball terms, when Niagara-Wheatfield and Grand Island stepped onto the hardwood inside N-WHS Tuesday night, the teams were battling to improve their record in the Niagara Frontier League and gain points for the sectional playoffs. As important as a win was, though, Tuesday night was a lot more than basketball. The Falcons and Vikings joined in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game, which was played in honor of a friend close to each school's heart - Julie Neville.

Publishing a book is no easy feat. Authors start off with an idea, and sometimes it could be tough for that idea to transfer into a publication. For Brigette Callahan and Kristin Warham, their dream of creating a book about their love of Buffalo came true. The book, "Buffalo From A to Z, Come Take a Tour With Me," is a bright, colorful, 54-page guide around the City of Buffalo.
