On Thursday, New York State Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt and Assembly members Angelo Morinello and Mike Norris sent a letter requesting immediate coordination between the New York State Office of Emergency Management (SEMO), the cities of Lockport and Niagara Falls, and Niagara County, regarding flash flooding that occurred July 20. Severe rainstorms caused a significant amount of damage throughout those areas.

Last week, the M-60A3 army tank located at the Wheatfield Veterans Memorial received a fresh coat of paint. While it's still green, of course, the tank now more closely matches the paint of the UH1-D Huey helicopter also featured in the memorial.

DEC cites Cascades facility for noxious odors; company working to find long-term solution

Recently, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation served Cascades Containerboard Packaging Inc. a notice of violation after receiving numerous complaints from residents in the Town of Niagara, City of Niagara Falls and even as far away as Sanborn throughout the month of May. The agency said the company was in violation of Air Pollution Control Law, Article 19 of the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL).

Carnegie Art Center to host monthly 'Makers Market' on its lawn space

NCCC ahead of the curve amidst budding cannabis industry

On March 31, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation legalizing adult use of cannabis throughout New York. During the announcement, Cuomo said the development of an adult-use cannabis industry in New York has, "The potential to create significant economic opportunities for New Yorkers and the state." Its estimated the industry could bring in $350 million in tax revenue each year and potentially create 30,000 to 60,000 jobs.
Stavatti Aerospace plans get OK from Town of Niagara, Niagara County planning boards

A site plan from Stavatti Aerospace Ltd. to begin initial construction and repairs at the former Army Reserve base located in the municipality was approved by both the Town of Niagara and Niagara County planning boards last week. The approved plans allow Stavatti to begin remediation efforts to bring building No. 4, a 37,500-square-foot hangar, up to code.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public comment period regarding an air quality permit filed on behalf of a proposed asphalt plant for 4660 Witmer Road in the Town of Niagara. Written comments may be sent to Kerri L. Pickard-DePriest at DEC Region 9 Headquarters, 270 Michigan Ave., Buffalo, NY 14203. The deadline for comment recently was extended to May 3.
