Lewiston Dance Center students active in community

Members of the Lewiston Dance Center were busy over the holidays, taking part in the Village of Lewiston Christmas tree lighting - where students danced outdoors in the falling snow - and performing at the Niagara Falls Fireman's Fund Telethon.
3-on-3 basketball tournament for boys

Junior Hockey Championships on NHL Network

Time Warner Cable announced this week that the NHL Network will televise select games from the 2011 IBHF U20 World Junior Hockey Championships, which start this weekend in Buffalo. Included are all of Team USA's games and the medal round.

Niagara University's recreation department is now accepting registrations for its "Winter Wonderland Youth Camp," which will be held Dec. 27-31 at the university's Kiernan Center. DEC conducting Lake Ontario tributary angler creel survey

An angler creel survey on Lake Ontario tributaries will be conducted this fall on 23 tributary streams ranging from the Niagara River eastward to the Black River in Jefferson County. Major stream fisheries the survey will include are: Eighteen Mile Creek, Oak Orchard Creek, Sandy Creek, Irondequoit Creek, Oswego River, Salmon River, North and South Sandy Creeks and the Black River.
DEC announces release of pheasants

Approximately 30,000 adult pheasants will be released on lands open to public hunting for the upcoming fall pheasant-hunting season, according to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis.The pheasant hunting season begins on Oct. 1 in northern and eastern portions of New York; Oct. 16 in central and western portions; and Nov. 1 on Long Island.

A total of 120 cars filled the pit area last Friday night for night No. 1 of King of the Hill weekend. Beginning on Thursday night, campers began to arrive for the 19th annual event, bringing to a close the 2010 season at the Big R. State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C, Newfane, and Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte, D-Lewiston, have announced that legislation they sponsored to pave the way for legalized crossbow hunting in New York was signed into law this past weekend.
