Friday night, Lewiston-Porter junior Roddy Gayle had a big decision to make, but it was one he utmost felt incredibly comfortable with. In front of a few family, friends, media and Lew-Port administration and coaches, Gayle made his commitment to the Ohio State University during a ceremony in the Lancers gymnasium.

The Athletic Council of Section VI has accepted the results of the formal postcard ballot that went out to its membership, and will move forward with fall sports. Over 70 districts submitted votes through the ballot process with 67 pledging their support for a Sept. 21 start date.

The Niagara Region of New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced the annual permit lottery for the 2020 pheasant hunting season will take place Thursday, Oct. 1. This will include the drawing for both the youth hunt and the regular season hunt.
Niagara County Golf Course offers deal for youth golfers

In an effort to attract more young people to the game of golf, the Niagara County Golf Course on Tuesday announced golfers who purchase a single round of golf can bring one child 17 years of age of younger to play with them for free. This promotion is offered after noon on weekends, only during nonschool hours during the week, and will last through the end of September. Tee times must be scheduled in advance and are subject to availability.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the statewide fishing season for muskellunge opens Saturday, May 30, in most locations. The muskellunge season for New York's Lake Erie, Upper Niagara River, Lower Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River opens on the third Saturday in June - June 20 this year.

Representatives from Price Rite Marketplace and the University at Buffalo football team donated 43 "sacks" of food to New Beginnings Food Pantry on Tuesday at Price Rite Marketplace of Amherst. The donation was a result of the football team's 43 sacks this season and included canned goods, fresh produce, rice, pasta and water.

Tuesday night, the Lewiston-Porter Lancers faced the Niagara Falls Wolverines on the hardwood without their star sophomore Roddy Gayle. Gayle was on the bench for the Lancers' battle, as he nursed an injury. And while most people counted L-P out in his absence, the Lancers gave the Wolverines everything they had. Despite the efforts, the Wolverines prevailed, 71-67, behind big nights from Taylor Sanders and Bryce Smith.

The Lewiston-Porter Lancers felt the affects of playing in Niagara-Wheatfield's gym Tuesday night, but as good teams do, the Lancers were able to overcome an early stumble. Lew-Port defeated the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons, 80-51, Tuesday, in a game that was close for the first 16 to 17 minutes.

After losing to the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons early in the season, 5-0, the Lewiston-Porter Lancers boys soccer team chances of winning the Niagara Frontier League finals Wednesday night may have seemed slim to some. The Lancers were quick to prove the doubters wrong, though, as Lewiston-Porter defeated the Falcons, 1-0, to clinch the program's first NFL title since 2010.
'King of the Hill' weekend to wrap up 2019 season at Ransomville Speedway

Ransomville Speedway closes out its 2019 season this Friday and Saturday with the annual "King of the Hill" weekend presented by Investor's Service on Sept. 13-14. This event will bring race teams from across New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Ontario to the "Big R" for two days of racing, including the first visits to Ransomville by two different racing series.
