Niagara County Sheriff's Office 'Building Bridges; in Niagara Falls

On Monday, Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced the culmination of the week-long "Building Bridges" program. This partnership between the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and the Niagara Falls Police Department was created in an effort to have youth and law enforcement officers interact in a positive environment.

Incoming freshmen Valentina Krajacic and Eoin Potwin, and Niagara University junior Gabriella Cole, are the 2023 recipients of the university's Merani Scholarship, a collaboration between Niagara and the Merani Hotel Group to provide opportunities for high-level experiential learning in the hospitality industry. The students will receive an annual scholarship of $7,500 and paid rotating internships at Merani properties.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she signed legislation to address the minimum age of lifeguards at children's camps. Legislation (S.6467-A/A.5821A) will require lifeguards for children's camps to be at least 17 years of age except that up to 50% of the required number of lifeguards on duty may be at least 15 years of age if they are under the supervision of a camp aquatics director. Lifeguards required for wilderness swimming must be at least 18 years of age.

Registration is now open for Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University's Kids 'n Arts Camp, a unique art and theater-fused five-week program entering its 19th year. Camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, July 10 to Aug. 11. Participants ages 5-12 can attend one or more weeks of camp. Child care is available before and after camp hours.
