New York State Canal System opens for season

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the opening of the 2023 navigation season for the 524-mile New York State Canal system, kicking off the 199th consecutive opening of the historic waterways. Locks and lift bridges on the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals will operate daily today through Oct. 11, providing opportunities for boating, fishing and sightseeing to tourists, canal enthusiasts and all New Yorkers.

Bowling event raises $6,000 to fight cancer

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 27-year-old Charles L. Jones of Buffalo pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to two counts of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felonies).
