Smelt Festival kicks off summer season in Lewiston

The Village of Lewiston's first festival of the season, the Smelt Festival, will take place on Cinco de Mayo, Friday, May 5. The rain-or-shine event will begin at 5 p.m. at the corner of Center and North Water streets, and is expected to draw hundreds of hungry visitors, as it has in years past.

The team of employees at the Valu Home Centers location in North Tonawanda recently participated in a weight loss challenge, where, all together, they lost almost 132 pounds. Employees decided to try and gather at least 132 pounds of food, and ended up with 360 pounds to donate to the North Tonawanda Inter-Church Food Pantry.

Victim identified in Lewiston construction accident

On Wednesday, the Lewiston Police Department identified the victim of a construction accident that took place Monday afternoon outside of St. Peter R.C. Church. Timothy Zayac, 56, of Lockport, died while working at the site.
