Red Cross testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies

For a limited time, the American Red Cross has resumed testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for coronavirus antibodies. Plasma from routine donations that have high levels of antibodies may be used as convalescent plasma to help meet the needs of COVID-19 patients with weakened immune systems.
Artpark lifts COVID-19 admissions policies for all venues

As New Yorkers prepare to set their clocks forward one hour on Sunday, March 13 (Daylight Saving Time), the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is urging everyone to check their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Homeowners with alarms that have sealed, non-removable batteries should test the alarms to see if they are functional and check their expiration dates. Alarms equipped with removable batteries should have their batteries replaced.

They collect a punch card at designated gold star balloon businesses; stop into any of the participating sites along Center Street, which will be marked with star balloons (red - "Sip" and "Shop"; blue - "Sip" and "Eat"); take a look around to see what's inside, and get the punch card punched. No purchase is necessary - but purchases are always appreciated.

Higgins announces approval of legislation honoring Indiana Hunt-Martin

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the passage of H.R. 2142 on Monday. Sponsored by Higgins, the bill designates the Central Park Post Office, at 170 Manhattan Ave., Buffalo, as the "Indiana Hunt-Martin Post Office Building." The facility is named in honor of Women's Army Corps (WAC) veteran Hunt-Martin, a member of the first African American WAC unit - and the only to serve in World War II.

NYS: 2 free snowmobile weekends in March

Gov. Kathy Hochul has designated March 5-6 and 12-13 for free snowmobiling by all out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers. During these promotional weekends, the requirement to register in New York is waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobiling enthusiasts wishing to explore New York's 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails.

Late-night vehicle pursuit crosses counties

At 2:47 a.m. Monday morning, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center was notified of a vehicle pursuit entering Niagara County from the Town of Amherst. It was reported that a silver Cadillac sedan was fleeing Amherst PD after the occupants were found stealing from cars in a local neighborhood.
