Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the U.S. Small Business Administration will offer federal assistance to New Yorkers in Western New York affected by Winter Storm Elliott in late December. Residents and businesses in Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara and Wyoming counties are now eligible to apply for low-interest loans to aid in their recovery from this historic storm, which devastated the entire region over the Christmas holiday.

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) is responding after a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain impacted the region, causing power outages overnight into Thursday, Feb. 23. As of noon, approximately 14,800 customers in the Lancaster division, which includes Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Wyoming counties, were without power.

Kathy Hochul on Tuesday urged caution as a winter storm is forecast to impact upstate regions beginning Wednesday afternoon, particularly in the North Country and parts of the Capital Region, Central New York, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley and Western New York, where snow or sleet is expected to slowly spread from the New York/Pennsylvania border northeast and reach parts of the North Country by Wednesday night.

Flynn announced a jury has found 32-year-old Cortez Foster of Buffalo guilty of one count of murder in the second degree (class "A-I" felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony). Jurors rendered their decision Wednesday afternoon after approximately two-and-a-half hours of deliberation following a five-day trial, convicting the defendant of all charges in the indictment against him.
