Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 35-year-old Cesarick Merritt of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday to three counts of attempted robbery in the first degree (class "C" violent felonies). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges in full satisfaction of the indictment ahead of trial, which was scheduled to begin with jury selection tomorrow.

On April 8, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Erie County. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with the most recent total solar eclipse happening in Western New York way back in 1925. The next total solar eclipse in the U.S. will not happen again until 2044. With Buffalo and Erie County in the path of totality, we expect large crowds and an influx in tourists to visit our region.

Owls are unable to move their eyes in their head. If they want to see in another direction than forward, they must swivel their heads. Owl heads can swivel for at least 270 degrees. Owl eyes are huge, and owls are adapted to see well enough in the dark to hunt for mice, voles, and other small birds and animals. Owls are nearly colorblind because keen color vision is not essential for animals that are active mostly at night (nocturnal).

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 26-year-old Abdi Kadir of Buffalo was sentenced this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes to 15 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. He was sentenced today as a second violent felony offender.
