Hochul: $20 million in water infrastructure upgrades for Erie County Water Authority

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $20 million in water infrastructure upgrades for communities in Erie County. Her team said, "With this funding, the Erie County Water Authority can complete a long-awaited, $80 million overhaul that includes upgrading water filters that treat 60 million gallons of water from Lake Erie each day, and haven't had substantial upgrades for 70 years."

Kathy Hochul on Saturday updated New Yorkers on "the state's ongoing efforts to support asylum seekers, help them find shelter, and connect them with critical social services as they arrive in New York." This includes $250 million in funding already sent to New York City, "progress resulting from continued advocacy with the federal government, and additional National Guard deployments."

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 34-year-old William A. Fugate of Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison. He was sentenced yesterday as a second felony offender.

Reading garden planned for Grand Island Memorial Library

The Grand Island Memorial Library is planning to add a reading garden to the grassy area next to the building that faces the parking lot. The library will be called the Richard Earne Memorial Reading Garden, as a tribute to the late Richard Earne, who was a member of the Grand Island Rotary Club, as well as a member of the library board of trustees. He died on Sept. 18, 2022.
VA Western New York Healthcare System receives 5-star rating from CMS

Western New York Healthcare System announced that it has received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This is the first time CMS has included VA facilities in its annual Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings.
