DeGlopper Memorial unveiling 'truly awesome'

It was an emotionally charged, patriotic, somber and extremely well-orchestrated military tribute to veterans. The unveiling of a life-sized statue of Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper in his hometown occurred in front of a large crowd with great fanfare on Saturday, June 5.

Albright-Knox Public Art Initiative debuts 'Works, from Home' mural project

In April 2020, the Albright-Knox's Public Art Initiative asked 16 local artists to respond to the initial lockdown requirements of the pandemic. To build community spirit, the museum sent artmaking materials to these artists at their home studios, and they worked to produce a 16-piece collaborative mural. The piece, now located at 43 W. Chippewa St., "speaks to individual and collective experiences of the pandemic."

They are calling for several transportation improvements to plan for the eventual removal of the Skyway, including removal of the tolls for Hamburg commuters.

The Erie County Department of Social Services has announced the opening of the portal for the New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), which will provide income-qualified renters who experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19 with up to 12 months back rent and up to three months future rent. Erie County and the Erie County Department of Health announced Dunkin' will provide 2,000 gift cards (valued at $5 each) for distribution at county-run COVID-19 vaccine clinics starting Tuesday, May 25. These cards will be given to youth ages 12 and older as they complete the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with a second dose at ECDOH clinics.

Erie County's ongoing bicentennial celebration got a hoppy boost with the introduction of Flying Bison Brewery's "Parks and Rec Pilsener," a special-edition bicentennial brew that is now available for purchase locally. Crafted with hops grown in Eden, the tasty local libation was created by Flying Bison as a part of the county's bicentennial celebration, which began April 2 and will continue through April 2022.
