ECMC updates patient visitation guidelines

Erie County Medical Center has updated patient visitation guidelines due to historically high inpatient volumes, extended wait times in its ER, and an increasing COVID-19 inpatient census. ECMC urges anyone experiencing mild symptoms to first consult with their primary care physician or visit an urgent care location.

Hochul announces comprehensive cleanup plans for former Lackawanna Bethlehem Steel site

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the selection of final cleanup plans for the estimated $69 million remediation of the former Bethlehem Steel site in Lackawanna. The announcement builds on the progress already underway at the site, and construction to advance the cleanup plan is expected to begin next year. In addition to addressing sitewide contamination, the cleanup will provide public access to Lake Erie for the first time in more than 100 years.
S&P Global Ratings reaffirms Erie County's credit rating at AA-

Grand Island Town Board selects EFPR Group as auditing firm

The Grand Island Town Board voted 5-0 on Monday to hire the EFPR Group as the town's auditing firm, replacing the Bonadio Group, which has been the auditing company since 2005. The contract with the EFPR Group will be effective from fiscal year 2021 through fiscal year 2028.

Family Promise of WNY (FPWNY), an emergency family homeless shelter, is "desperate" for community support in securing a van to transport the children and parents it serves. Two weeks ago, the FPWNY 12-passenger van was in a serious accident. The van has been deemed a total loss by an insurance company.
ECDOH updates COVID-19 quarantine requirements

On Oct. 27, the New York State Department of Health released an informational document that allowed local health departments to reduce the duration of a quarantine under certain conditions. Based on that document, the Erie County Department of Health is announcing an adjustment to its COVID-19 quarantine requirements.
