Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued a warning to New Yorkers today after receiving information from multiple consumers about a scam targeting senior citizens with robo-calls advising that they have been "approved" for medical alert equipment at "no charge."

The town's Memorial Day Services will be held on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at DeGlopper Park, on the corner of Baseline Road and Grand Island Boulevard. Gold Star Mothers Shirley Luther and Mary Ann Crowe will be honored, the Roll will be called, the Honor Guard will give a gun salute and a wreath will be placed at the monument in the park. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Paul T. Dansereau.

At a joint evening meeting with the Town Board April 29, the Grand Island Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution naming Dr. Teresa Lawrence as its choice for the position of superintendent of schools. The district has been led by Interim Superintendent Paul Hashem since mid-January.

The Grand Island Board of Education will announce its selection of a new superintendent of schools during Monday's joint meeting with the Grand Island Town Board.

The Board of Education and the Town Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Grand Island Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Road.

Grisanti sponsors bill to prohibit devocalization of animals

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-60, has introduced legislation to protect dogs and cats from what animal advocates worldwide deem animal abuse. Senate bill S.2271 would prohibit devocalization, an elective procedure in which vocal cords are cut just to alter an animal's voice.
