The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 268, based in Lockport, delivered a check to the Niagara County Office for the Aging (OFA) to cover the cost of meals on Veterans Day for all the veterans enrolled in the county's home-delivered meals program. There are nearly 90 veterans enrolled in the meal program.

NT Common Council finalizes 2023 budget

The North Tonawanda Common Council voted at Tuesday's special session in favor of 13 amendments made to Mayor Austin Tylec's proposed 2023 general budget, cutting the proposed tax increase down to 5%. Among those amendments was the removal of the proposed $25,000 raise for the mayor and approximately $20,000 worth of raises for the council.

Students in Debbie Wilczak's fashion design/interior decorating program, at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center, recently had the opportunity to customize their own sneakers. The students used leather or fabric paint to explore their artistic abilities to make their custom shoes. They used Disney and the movies "Star Wars" and "Scream" as their inspirations.

Empire State Development announces Americarb to expand manufacturing operations in Niagara County

Empire State Development announced that Americarb Inc., a leading global producer of carbon and graphite advanced materials, plans to add 45 jobs and invest $6 million in its Niagara Falls plant. The investment will be used to purchase and install new machinery and equipment utilized in the manufacturing of high-temp composite material for the production of clean hydrogen, and in aerospace and defense applications.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski reminds residents the federal REAL ID requirements will go into effect in six months: May 3, 2023. That means one will need a REAL ID to board any domestic flights, enter a military base or access certain federal facilities.

Concerts to focus on mental health issues

Niagara Falls police seek information on shooting

Monday at approximately 6:40 p.m., the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the area of Vanderbilt Avenue and DeVeaux Street for a report of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old Niagara Falls man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and his elbow.
State Parks to host information session on extension of crow's nest project

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a public information session regarding the expansion of the crow's nest walkway and viewing platform.
