New signs promote right to farm in Wheatfield

Several years ago, the Agriculture Focus Group wrote a "Right to Farm" law for the Town of Wheatfield, which was adopted by the Town Board. As part of that process, signs were requested to be posted at the entrances to the town.

There was a familiar face on the opening of Season 3 of NBC's show "The Sing-Off" on Monday night. Michael Pittman, a 2009 Niagara-Wheatfield graduate, is now a junior at the University of Rochester and a member of it's a cappella group the YellowJackets. The group opened the show, and was not one of the two groups voted off, so local fans can catch them (and Michael) again on the Oct. 3 show. The Sept. 26 show features the second half of the competitors.

The Niagara County Refuse Disposal District's medicine drop-off day on Saturday in the Town of Wheatfield drew this year's highest volume for any such event. Residents got rid of old prescriptions in droves - 57 5-gallon containers totaling more than 588 pounds of pills, which have an estimated illegal street value of more than $1 million, were safely removed from medicine cabinets.
