NFFP responds to fire

At 1:37 a.m. Wednesday, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to a fire at 7211 Stephenson Ave. Upon arrival, fire personnel found heavy fire coming out of the windows on the right side and in the rear of the building. Upon investigation, it was determined the cause of the fire was not accidental.

Niagara Wine Trail hosts 'Wine & Charcuterie' weekend event June 3-4

Tickets are on sale for the Niagara Wine Trail's "Wine & Charcuterie" weekend food sampling and wine tasting event, set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 3, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 4. The event is sponsored by Cabot Creamery. Guests will pair New York state crafted Cabot Creamery cheese and other charcuterie items with three tastes of wine at each participating winery along the trail.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph a. Jastrzemski today said the North Tonawanda Department of Vehicles Office (DMV) will not open until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23. The Lockport DMV will not open until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24. The delayed start is due to employee training requirements.

Niagara County creates truck driver trainee positions

Niagara County Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal today announced the Legislature has approved the creation of a truck driver/CDL trainer and four new truck driver trainee positions in an effort to address the shortage of workers with commercial driver's licenses (CDL) across the county. A CDL is required to drive snowplows and heavy highway equipment used for roadwork and maintenance.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Reginald Barnes was sentenced this morning by County Court Judge John Ottaviano to 16 years in State Prison for his conviction of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer.

USDA seeks feedback from producers about 2023 crops, stocks, inventories & values

Jastrzemski reminds drivers who renewed license by self-certifying vision to submit vision test to DMV to avoid suspension

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday reminded drivers who renewed their license between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, by self-certifying their vision but have failed to submit the results of a vision test to the Department of Motor Vehicles that they face suspension of their license. Drivers who fall into this category should have received a letter from the state DMV.

John Katko, former U.S. congressman, and Dr. Dianne Morrison-Beedy, chief talent and global strategy officer and Centennial Professor of Nursing at The Ohio State University, have been named to Niagara University's board of trustees. The appointments were announced by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of the university.
