Structure fire in Wilson

On May 8, at approximately 7:05 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office dispatch center received multiple 911 calls reporting a possible residential structure fire at 23 Joshua Drive in the Town of Wilson. It was advised that heavy smoke was coming from a manufactured home in the Rainbow Mobile Home Park.

Suspicious person/weapons violation in Niagara Falls

On May 6, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a call reporting that a suspicious male was in possession of a gun. The male was reported to have stated that he was going to shoot someone. The male was originally reported to be in the area of Hyde Park Boulevard in the Town of Niagara.

On May 18, Altaf Stationwala, president/CEO at Mackenzie Health, will provide the commencement address for NU's Ontario graduates, who will celebrate at a ceremony at the Meridian Centre.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the westbound Niagara Scenic Parkway will be closed in the City of Niagara Falls from the LaSalle Expressway to Buffalo Avenue on Tuesday, May 9, to facilitate paving. The closure will be in place from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists traveling westbound should follow the posted detour.

Senior communities create canned food sculptures for donation

Connect55+ Active Living Communities across the country collected canned goods and created canned food sculptures in their communities, all for a good cause. A combined donation of nearly 10,000 canned goods and nonperishable food items was collected that was distributed to local food shelters.

Members of Niagara University's men's hockey team spent a recent morning loading and unloading a truck filled with furniture that will be used to set up new homes for refugees resettling in Western New York through Jewish Family Services. The team connected with JFS through an ongoing initiative of Niagara University's Justice House program.
