Niagara County student internship program begins Sept. 19

The Niagara County Legislature internship program is set to begin Sept. 19, and there are still some openings available for students who attend any Niagara County high schools. The program, run by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County (CCE-Niagara), goes from September to February and is a commitment of about two evenings a month.

Francis Center meat & basket raffles to benefit community programs

Francis Center, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara, will hold a mega meat raffle at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Doors open at 5 p.m. at Town of Niagara Active Hose, 6010 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls. Tickets are $15 per person, or $100 for a table of eight.

New York City drops lawsuit against Niagara County over housing migrants

On Wednesday, Niagara County Legislature Majority Leader Randy Bradt stated, "New York City has discontinued its lawsuit against Niagara County over the emergency order that essentially prevented the city from sending migrants to be housed in Niagara County hotels."

Shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday night, Niagara Falls Police Department patrol responded to 9101 Niagara Falls Blvd., for a man stabbed. A 30-year-old Niagara Falls man suffered multiple stab wounds and reported he was stabbed while at the rear of the address. He was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, then transferred to ECMC where he is in stable condition.

Muzzleloader course to be given in Wheatfield

Hunting season is almost here, and the Firearms Permit Review Board (FPRB) of Wheatfield will be giving its annual muzzleloader course at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Community Center located behind the Wheatfield Town Hall. A certificate will be issued to those taking this course, as a requirement for a muzzleloader discharge permit.
Niagara County forms committee to plan US 250th celebration

Niagara County is in the process forming a committee to plan for celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States on July 4, 2026, according to Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh. Robert Emerson, executive director of Old Fort Niagara, has been asked to chair the committee.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Niagara River Greenway Standing Committee has postponed its meeting from Wednesday, Sept. 13, until 11 a.m. Oct. 1. The Levesque Institute at Niagara University, as part of a coalition of diverse organizations committed to the revitalization of the City of Niagara Falls, has formed a Niagara Falls neighborhood evaluation committee. The committee's first project is a comprehensive data collection that will provide information for a future neighborhood assessment to evaluate housing market conditions in the midtown area of the City of Niagara Falls.

On Monday night, at approximately 10 p.m., a 38-year-old male from Niagara Falls was shot in the leg at a house in the 400 block of 19th Street. He was then taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
Niagara County: Seaman announces murder conviction

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Antonio Carr, age 30, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced this morning to a term of 45 years to life in State Prison. Carr was convicted in May of this year of murder in the second degree and multiple weapons charges in the slaying of 57-year-old Tracy Greene at the victim's barbershop in Niagara Falls on Oct. 2, 2021.
