Niagara University shows 'Power of Our Voice' to end gender-based violence

Hundreds of Niagara University students, faculty and staff were joined by members of the community on March 30 to "Take Back the Night." The annual event, now in its sixth year, aims to end gender-based violence in all forms, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Higgins announces $250,000 for Niagara Falls Airport

Congressman Brian Higgins announced $250,000 in new federal funding through the "Bipartisan Infrastructure Law" for the Niagara Falls International Airport. The local airport is among just 33 projects receiving an award through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program.

This program ensures that children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during summer vacation. Meals are comparable to the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs (NSBP and NSLP, respectively) throughout the school year.

Niagara County clerks says US government taking longer to process passport applications

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Wednesday warned travelers in need of a passport that the U.S. Department of State is taking longer to process passport applications. Jastrzemski said routine processing will now take 10-13 weeks, and expedited processing - which costs an additional $60 - will take seven to nine weeks.

NFPD recovers drugs, gun, cash

On Thursday, members of the Niagara Falls Police Department narcotics intelligence division conducted a search warrant in the 4000 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. Narcotics detectives located a handgun reported stolen from out of state, plus 47 grams of fentanyl, 91 grams of cocaine, 24 suboxone strips, pills and a large amount of cash.

Catholic Health: Progress continues at 'record pace' on new Lockport Memorial Hospital

Construction of the new, 60,000-square-foot Lockport Memorial Hospital (LMH) is proceeding at a record pace as a result of Catholic Health's continued collaboration with the New York State Department of Health, local government officials, and its construction partners. Ground was broken in November 2021 for the $62 million facility - the largest investment in eastern Niagara County in recent years - which is expected to open in September 2023.
